New York Primary Campaign Event

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
April 8, 2016

When Donald Trump, Republican presidential primary candidate and businessman, held his first Long Island rally on April 6, 2016, in Bethpage, I didn’t have an assignment to cover what was a well-attended event by both supporters and protestors.

New York International Auto Show 2016

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
March 28, 2016

I LOVE COVERING CAR SHOWS – whether capturing photos of a couple in their rusty classic truck in a field or a CEO unveiling his company’s sports car in what looks like the set of a high-end ad shoot.

A red Toyota C-HR Concept car is on display at the New York International Auto Show 2016, at the Jacob Javits Center. This was Press Preview Day one of NYIAS, and the Trade Show will be open to the public for ten days, March 25th through April 3rd. (Ann Parry)

At the current New York International Auto Show, the only fields are projected on vast screens that seconds later might show cars speeding along mountain roads, or sun flares caressing beautiful women.

Early in the morning last Wednesday – Press Preview Day One of the New York International Auto Show – I packed my badge, Nikon DSLR with two lenses: 24-200/f2.8mm and 16mm 180-degree fisheye, and then took the LIRR to Penn Station and walked to the Javits Center.

Lexus RX, a closeup of hood and emblem shown, is decorated with old-fashioned pink telephone handsets on outspace background by Jeremy Scott, is on display at the New York International Auto Show 2016, at the Jacob Javits Center. For New York Fashion Week, Lexus commissioned designer Scott to wrap10 Lexus RX cars in prints from his Fall collection inspired by space cowgirl, a sign explained. This was Press Preview Day one of NYIAS, and the Trade Show will be open to the public for ten days, March 25th through April 3rd. (Ann Parry)

It was fun work, with lots of walking and opportunities for capturing photos of gleaming autos and people.

At the end of the day was a special surprise: Bodypainting artist Trina Merry and her Trina Merry Studio recreated the NYIAS official poster as living art, with the painted and positioned bodies of her models forming the red car shown heading up the road.

Artist TRINA MERRY, and her Trina Merry Studios, created a piece of living art, where models' bodies are painted and then positioned to resemble a red car, on view at the Media Party after the first day of the New York International Auto Show 2016, at the Jacob Javits Center. The artwork recreated the NYIAS poster. This was Press Preview Day one of NYIAS, and the Trade Show will be open to the public for ten days, March 25th through April 3rd. (Ann Parry)

And when I sailed off one of the slightly raised car platforms shortly before heading back the the Island,  I caught my balance – a great ending to a great day.

Bryant Park Ice Skating Rink, NYC, Nov. 9, 2013

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
November 17, 2013

Last Saturday night, after a much anticipated Nikon workshop by Steve Simon in Manhattan, I walked around the block to capture night photos at Bryant Park, whose Winter Village has long been a visual and sentimental favorite of mine.

The pink and green shadows each skater cast on the ice immediately caught my attention, and I photographed the festive, energetic, colorful scenes at the Ice Skating Rink and Holiday Shops with my Nikon D4 until around 9:30 that evening, November 9, 2013.

NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
March 24, 2013

The snow didn’t stop the thousands of people marching in the 252nd Annual NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade last Saturday, March 16, 2013, and well over a million people lined Fifth Avenue to watch and celebrate.

Those marching, many who wore kilts, uniforms, colorful costumes, sashes, included Bag and Pipe Bands; Irish dancers; fire, police, military, religious, educational, and social groups. Because of massive ongoing restoration to St. Patrick’s Cathedral’s exterior, construction scaffolding pretty much ruled out picturesque photos of it, but I made sure to document the progress and the high, thin sign wrapped around the landmark: “ST. PATRICK’S IS OPEN,”

2nd Annual Interfaith Memorial Service for Haiti, Brooklyn 2012

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
January 31, 2012

When I heard that 13-year-old SHEIMYRAH MIGHTY, whom I first photographed singing at a 2008 rally at Long Island’s Eisenhower Park, would sing the U.S. National Anthem at the 2nd Annual Interfaith Memorial Service for Haiti on January 11, 2012, I looked into covering that Brooklyn Borough Hall event.

I went with a friend and fellow-photographer, Mike Leverett Dorn, and since we were running a bit late, we rushed from the MTA Borough Hall subway stop into the Hall. And as we raced up the long flight of stairs I could hear Sheimyrah singing. Just (barely) in time!

New York City Police Commissioner RAY KELLY was the Keynote Speaker, and other participants in the memorial service included a variety of Haitian musical and literary artists (Sheimyrah Mighty is Jamaican Haitian American); politicians; architect Rodney Leon who designed the African Memorial Burial Ground in NYC; Christian, Muslim, and Jewish spiritual and community leaders; and providers of Haitian humanitarian relief.

Newlyweds in Times Square, NYC, Warm Winter Day 2012-01-24

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
January 25, 2012

Yesterday afternoon, while walking back to Penn Station after visiting my dear friends Mel and Cindy staying near Central Park, I was happy to have a camera with me when I saw newlyweds and their bridal party posing for photos in Father Duffy Square in Times Square.

Manhattan, New York, USA: A bride and groom pose for pictures in Times Square, NYC, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, after their City Hall marriage ceremony. Temperatures were unseasonably warm, reaching 52°F / 11°C mid-afternoon. (Ann Parry/Ann Parry, ann-parry.com)

Temperatures were unseasonably warm that day, reaching 52°F / 11°C mid-afternoon, but the bride, wearing a strapless bridal gown, clearly was happy to put on her coat when the photo session, mainly recorded by one of the bridesmaids, was over.
