Energy: The Power of Art

Last week I had a heavenly time during my first visit to the “Energy: The Power of Art” exhibit at the Nassau County Museum of Art on the Gold Coast of Long Island.

Above video has photos & video of “Aurorae” (2019) by Miya Ando (1978).

As soon as I arrived, I watched an hour PBS documentary about aurora borealis.

Then I lingered long in the Mrs. Vincent de Roulet Gallery with artist MIYA ANDO‘s atmospheric “Aurorae” – her aurora borealis installation commissioned by the Nassau County Museum of Art.

“Aurorae” – an imposing  238 x 120 x 120 inches – is delicate hand painted fabric hanging from a spiral of aluminum suspended from the high ceiling.

Such haunting lights on Long Island’s North Shore.

Despite having to shove my fingers in my coat pocket whenever they got too cold to set my Nikon’s dials and buttons – I had a great visit, outdoors and in, at the Nassau County Museum of Art this weekend.

It was a joint scouting expedition with one of my fellow co-leaders of the Long Island Photowalk and three members of NYPhotoForum. We spent quite a while photographing statues – which ranged from the sublime to the absurd – scattered throughout the grounds.

And later, after the others left, I joined the docent tour of the current exhibition: the Paintings of Louis Comfort Tiffany, plus some Tiffany lamps, windows, and more.

And yes, I took all the photos of this winter visit with Nikkor 16mm 180-degree fish-eye lens.
