For America to avoid going off the “fiscal cliff” of broad tax hikes and spending cuts starting to phase in on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, the Senate and House must agree on a bipartisan bill before then.
On October 15, 2012, Former White House Chief of Staff ERSKINE BOWLES (Dem), and former Senator ALAN SIMPSON (Rep) – co-chairs of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, and co-founders of the ‘Campaign to Fix the Debt’ – spoke at Hofstra University about “America’s Debt and Deficit Crisis: Issues and Solutions,” with moderator PATRICK SOCCI Dean of Hofstra’s Zarb School of Business.
They discussed the seriousness of the fiscal debt, and the Simpson-Bowles non-partisan U.S. fiscal debt reduction plan to decrease it and avoid the looming fiscal cliff.
After Bowles and Simpson spoke, the audience of students and other members of the Long Island community had a chance to ask them questions, on the night before Hofstra hosted the 2nd Presidential Debate between Obama and Romney.
