HILLARY CLINTON acknowledged the elephant in the room early in her Keynote Address at the New York State Democratic Convention at Hofstra University yesterday, May 23, 2018.
Clinton said, “Being here at the Mack [Sports and Exhibition Complex] at Hofstra brings back good memories of the first debate in 2016 against the Republican nominee….” and added, “It was a great night – mostly because I won.”
The friendly audience aiming for a Blue Tide in upcoming elections cheered.
Clinton strongly endorsed Gov. ANDREW CUOMO, who’s running for a third term, and she said the governor and Lt. Gov. KATHY HOCHUL stand up to the president. At the end of Clinton’s speech, Gov. Cuomo – in a surprise appearance – joined her onstage and presented a large bouquet to the former First Lady, Secretary of State and NYS Senator, as delegates applauded, stood, and held up “Thank You Hillary” and “NY ♥ HRC” posters.
Flanking Clinton’s appearance, two incumbents running for re-election won their party’s nomination. State Comptroller TOM DiNAPOLI gave his acceptance speech after winning unanimously. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul – who’s facing challenger NYC Council Member JUMAANE WILLIAMS in the Sept. 13th Democratic Primary – gave her acceptance speech after winning.
Meanwhile….
During Clinton’s speech, her Hofstra 2016 debate opponent was nine miles away in Bethpage, having accepted Rep. PETE KING‘s invitation to lead a roundtable on MS-13 violence on Long Island.
The president began by mentioning he spent a lot of hours at beautiful Bethpage State Park – where, according to a remark he made during his campaign, he used to arrive at 2 in the morning to play a round of golf.
