All things seem possible this May

“The world’s favorite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May.” – Edwin Way Teale  (1899-1980)

When I went to my daughter Laurie’s outdoor Baby Shower at Puglia’s Italian Steakhouse in Seaford last weekend, it was the first social event I attended since February 2020.

One of the guests I met for the first time was ADA CEA, a registered nurse at North Shore University Hospital, Northwell Health.

Last May, my post Happy Birthday Ada, Thank you for being our hero! shared how JOEY CESTARE – who was Laurie’s boyfriend then – helped his close friend Ada celebrate her birthday while she was staying at a hotel to avoid exposing her parents to COVID-19.

That long year ago, while capturing photos of the poster and truck Joey decorated for Ada’s birthday, I hoped to get the chance to take photos of Ada herself some day.

“Hoped” was an unusually strong and scary part of my wish because Long Island was slammed by the COVID-19 pandemic. I took little about the future for granted, and less still about the present seemed safe.

As 2020 crawled into 2021, my fiancé, Laurie, and older daughter Sue continued to tell me I was the strictest person they knew about limiting places I went and people I was around.

Then, not suddenly, it was Saturday, May 22, 2021, and friends and family gathered at Puglia’s under its open-sided tent for Laurie’s Baby Shower.

Virtually every guest who could be vaccinated was vaccinated by then.

Joey’s mom DONNA transformed the venue into something magical, thanks to lots and lots of talent and preparation… plus balloons the color of Laurie’s dress.

And, along with an awesome great-grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins to be…, Donna and I can’t wait to welcome our grandson with love and hope.

After COVID-19 Vaccination, Bob Feels Fine

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (annparry.com)

VIDEO: 3 Cheers for COVID-19 Vaccination – Bob Stuhmer gets his 2nd Covid-19 Vaccination, 2/20/2021, Nassau County, New York:

Last weekend, Bob and I had our second Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine shots at a vaccination site in Nassau County.

Late January, when one of my daughters magically landed on an online vaccination sign-up page that listed available appointments and worked, she scheduled appointments for Bob and me.

There was no blood on Bob’s arm after the shot, so the medical student who administered the Pfizer vaccination said he didn’t need a bandage unless he wanted one. (He didn’t.)

•  SIDE EFFECTS for Bob?  He didn’t have any side effects after the first dose on January 30th, and didn’t have any after the second dose three weeks later.

•  SIDE EFFECTS for me?  Barely worth mentioning. For about a day after each vaccination, my arm felt a bit sore when I touched it. After the second shot, I felt slightly light-headed for a few minutes, which I suspect is because I didn’t eat anything between breakfast and my early afternoon appointment.

North Merrick Runners Do It with Social Distancing

North Merrick Runners – safety comes first

The North Merrick Runners club used staggered start times during its practice run October 18th to ensure social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking forward to cheering on my daughter Sue and her fellow NMR members, I began looking near Park Avenue School for runners about 3:20 PM, optimistically soon after the 3:00 scheduled start time.

VIDEO  (with music; clips not chronological):
I looked up the sidewalks and road for a while. Then I told my neighbor, who was working in his front yard, that runners in the North Merrick Runners club would be passing by soon, which they did.

After cheering and videoing each runner, and hearing my neighbor also cheer before he left, I stayed on the lookout until at least ten minutes, but no runners, passed by.
