Abstract Realms & Dan Welden at The Art Guild

VIDEO with music:

As Bob and I walked toward the Elderfields House, I was surprised to see that Susan Tiffen, my friend and fellow photographer, was already leaving the reception for The Art Guild’s Abstract Realms exhibit.

After hugs, she explained she had come to attend the private viewing of Lasting Impressions, the documentary about Juror of Awards Dan Welden, and it had just finished.

What?!

It turned out that both Bob and I somehow had missed The Art Guild’s online and email announcements that it was presenting “Lasting Impressions,” the 2023 documentary on Dan Welden, immediately before the reception.

A variety of film festivals, organizations and venues have already presented “Lasting Impressions.” Here’s the trailer for the documentary:  productionhub.com/video/79050/trailer-for-lasting-impressions

DAN WELDEN, the Juror of Awards, is a globe-trotting painter, teacher, author, and master printmaker. He’s worked actively for health and safety in the arts.

He co-authored “Printmaking in the Sun with Pauline Muir, and is the director of Hampton Editions, Ltd. For over a half century he’s collaborated with artists such as Willem de Kooning and Kiki Smith.

Here’s an illuminating quote from his website, danwelden.com:

“I am a process person, interested in employing  materials and techniques to the ‘landscape’ of my mind. My drawings, paintings and prints evolve from the idea of linear pathways echoing  from the tracks of animals in nature, fissures in rock palisades and the  patterns created by my hands becoming ‘playful’ with my tools.”

Balance in Nature at Old Westbury Gardens

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
September 9, 2019

Eager to visit Old Westbury Gardens during its “Balance in Nature” exhibit of outdoor sculptures by JERZY “JOTKA” KĘDZIORA, I went Sunday, September 1st, when it brought kind summer weather and the bonus of “Fidos After Five” night.

NOTE: Exhibit has been extended until Sunday, October 20, 2019

DEFYING GRAVITY

Strolling through the estate grounds with my friend Bob, who played guide with the crucial help of the exhibit map handed out at the entrance booth, I saw about a dozen of the 33 outdoor life-size, bronze resin balancing sculptures by Jerzy “Jotka” Kędziora, born 1947, in Czestochowa, Poland.

FIDOS AFTER FIVE

During the final weekend of each month, from May through October, Old Westbury Gardens has “Fidos After Five,” when visitors may walk their leashed dogs in designated garden areas – which do not include the Walled Garden – from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

It was such a joy to meet, and at times photograph, the dogs, large and small – all looking happy to be out in the gardens with their families.

WORTH A REVISIT, NATURE-ALLY

In the late summer – early autumn weeks ahead, I look forward to revisiting Old Westbury Gardens to see more of its “Balance in Nature” exhibit, which has been extended until October 20, 2019.
