2011 Sweet Suzi & SugaFixx

Sweet Suzi & SugaFixx

Sweet Suzi & Sugafixx – Long Island’s scorching blues group starring vocalist SWEET SUZI SMITH – performed at the recent Merrick Street Fair.

Having stepped down as head of publicity for the MBCCA concert association, I expected to take a break from covering the performing arts, but Sweet Suzi & SugaFixx’s raw, powerful, emotional performance on stage outside RS Jones stopped me in my tracks.

You never know what you’ll get at town fairs, where musical groups can be more notable for their enthusiasm than talent, but – Wow! – the passion, musicianship, and stage presence of Sweet Suzi & SugaFixx blew me away.

Curbdogs Guitarist JOHN PUGLISI (from right here in Merrick), bassist JOE PAGANO, and drummer RONNIE SCIASCIA are the sizzling SugaFixx in SWEET SUZI SMITH’s band.

And back at home, when googling them for caption info for their photos, I made to sure check their schedule of upcoming performances in the area.

2011 Flash Mob: Macy's on Long Island, NY

Flash Mob: Macy’s on Long Island, NY

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
September 30, 2011

Music starting playing near the central cosmetics area of Macy’s in the mall, and a young woman and man rushed into an empty space in the aisle and started dancing.

The blond girl’s aqua shirt had Estée Lauder “Imagine having nothing to hide” on it, and the boy wore a white T-shirt, and after they did some particularly dashing jumps and lifts, several dozen dancers joined them.

So we had ourselves a flash mob, with dancers who ranged from amateurs to pros, and from a young girl around 10-years-old, to a very pregnant twenty-something, to those who were my age and beyond. They danced to Martin Solveig’s “Hello” which Flash Mob America choreographed.

And the Long Island, New York, shoppers loved it, many taking out their cell phones to photograph the 4-minutes of unexpected fun that Summer of 2011 afternoon.

Freckles Americana

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
July 3, 2011

Holding American flags, the young girl, with her dog on a leash, and younger boy watched the Memorial Day Parade on Merrick Avenue – a Norman Rockwell moment right here in Merrick, New York.

It wasn’t until looking at the photos on my computer monitor that I noticed her impressive freckles.
