MY ANSWER:  Fotofoto gallery’s “Your Best Shot” Reception, on February 29, 2020, for its Open Photography Push-Pin Exhibition

QUESTION:  What’s the most recent social gathering of two or more people you’ve attended?

On Leap Day, I got a chance to see my friends and their photography at the fotofoto gallery push-pin event in Huntington.

Then March came in like a lion that quickly became an invasion of COVID-19 lions. Serious and smart social distancing became a must.

So my above answer will be my answer for the foreseeable future.

2017 Members Showtime Reception, Huntington Arts Council

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
May 30, 2017

Friday night, our long Memorial Day Weekend started with good weather and great art at Huntington Arts Council’s Reception for its 2017 Artist Members Show.

I enjoyed seeing the art of many of my fellow Long Island artists, and quite a few of the artists themselves.

The previous art show I participated in mainly featured my editorial photography, so for this show I chose “Angel at Dusk” – one of my creative portraits – captured during a summer photo shoot with my niece Elizabeth at Norman J Levy Park & Preserve.

Here’s a short photo video taken at the end of HAC’S Reception. Included are photographers  Susan Tiffen and Pamela Waldroup, each posing by her work.

The Huntington Arts Council  Artist Members Show runs from May 26 through June 17.  Gallery hours are  Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday 12 – 4 p.m.

“Her Story Through Art” Invitational Show at Huntington Arts Council

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (annparry.com)
February 16, 2017

I’m thrilled to be one of four artists in Huntington Arts Council’s “Her Story Through Art” Invitational Show! The Opening Reception – Friday, March 3, 2017, from 6-8 pm – is free and open to the public.

POSTCARD:

‘Her Story Through Art’ Invitational Show, at Huntington Arts Council, March 2017. Artists: Anahai DeCanio, Ann Parry, Tara Leale Porter, Irene Vitale. I captured photo of actress Kelli Vonshay Henderson during LIIFE 2016 Awards Ceremony at Bellmore Movies.

Since the exhibit celebrates Women’s History Month, I selected pieces from my portrait and news photography that focus on females of all ages – with emphasis on women passionately involved in civics and politics, the arts, and volunteering.

Fellow artists ANAHI DeCANIO, TARA LEALE PORTER, and IRENE VITALE are also showcased in this exhibit. It’s fun preparing for the exhibit with them, and I’m looking forward to seeing their work in person.

RECEPTION – MARCH 3, 2017 – Friday’s Opening Reception was special for so many reasons – most notably because guests experienced four such distinct approaches to women expressing themselves through art. And the cutest reason the night was special for me was that my grandchildren, who are one-and-a-half and almost five years old, were there, along with their mom, dad, and Aunt Laurie.

Other much-appreciated visitors included friends and fellow photographers from Long Island Center of Photography; plus, several people featured in my photos came with their families.

TAKE DOWN DAY – MARCH 27, 2017 – When Bob and I arrived on “Take Down Day” after the show ended, Irene’s and Anahai’s art was already gone, and Tara was spackling where she had removed hooks from wall. Later, when I took a break from wrapping my canvases, Tara showed me how plants were sprouting in her sculpture terrarium.

Seeing the beginning of this new life  –  what a lovely way to end “Her Story Through Art.”

Hillary Clinton Book Signing ‘Hard Choices’ at Huntington Book Revue

From LONG ISLAND – by Ann Parry (ann-parry.com)
August 26, 2014

Lots of people in Huntington must have been happy it didn’t rain as originally predicted for August 6th, 2014, the day Former Secretary of State HILLARY CLINTON signed copies of her new memoir Hard Choices for 1,200 people at the Book Revue.

Huntington, New York, U.S. - August 6, 2014 - A police officer and police dog are leaving the Book Revue, a few hours before a book signing for H. Clinton's new memoir, Hard Choices, starts at the Book Revue in Huntington, Long Island. A large sign on the book store window says that the Clinton book signing that night is Sold Out. (Ann Parry/Ann Parry, Ann-Parry.com)

Several hours before the 6-8pm Hard Choices book signing, I drove to Huntington with my daughter, who had a ticket and copy of the memoir, and she got on the line, already a few blocks away from the store’s entrance.

I began capturing news photos, including of KENNY MITCHELL of Garden City, who arrived 11:10pm the night before and was first on line; protestors; members of Super PAC Ready for Hillary; extensive security, including county police, federal agents, and K9 officers.

When it was time to enter the store, Secret Service checked my Nikon D4 and lenses very thoroughly. Finally, the Book Revue’s co-owners, brothers RICHARD KLEIN and ROBERT KLEIN, introduced Hillary Clinton, and she began signing copies of her memoir.

UPDATE  Sept. 10, 2021Starting today, Huntington’s Book Revue reopens to give away thousands of used books. It officially closed Sept. 9, 2021, evicted by landlord for hundreds of thousands of dollars of unpaid rent, due to COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Three world-renowned street artists  – SONIC BAD, MASPAZ & PHETUS – each used their own distinctive styles to collaborate on metamorphosing the back walls of the Huntington Arts Council into a vibrant vast work of art, during SPARKBOOM’s “Off the Walls” art Block Party, on August 24, 2013.
